Under the foundation of YAYASAN KARYA BAKTI Surakarta, ATMI responding the absence of the technical experts in Indonesia at that time was built in 1968.  Building the workshop for practical to meet the demand of the industrial need was the initial activity after the assembling of ATMI in that year. The workshop itself was equipped with the conventional manufacture machines from the help of the Switzerland government and social organisations from Switzerland and Germany. 

In order to be financially – independent in a very short time, ATMI served many new ways in implementing technical education system afterward, named a production-based technical schooling concept. Throughout this concept, ATMI can overcome the high education cost and fee. From the early step, the first year, students of ATMI are actively involved to produce the products, which ATMI uses to meet the demand of industries. In addition, students of ATMI are also learning sense of quality and high discipline so that their products can be sold to the market affirming the high quality product. 

Since it was built in 1968, ATMI has consistently carried on the spirit of innovation in order to be always on trail with the development of industries and technology. Therefore, ATMI was then promptly equip the education facilities with many modern machines like CAD CAM, Wire Cut, EDM and CNC.  Moreover, the products produced from ATMI are getting varied in terms of kind, type, design, and use, such as; Office and School Furniture, Hospital Equipment, Workshop Equipments, Mold Dies.

Today, ATMI also produces many kinds of machines and products due to the customers demand. 

Many recognitions from many reputable companies, schools, and institutions have led ATMI which has been actively educating the well-trained students, reach the success. Many of them have given not only orders but requested ATMI to serve its consultating role for many varied institutions, either private or state owned companies, namely: Polman ASTRA, Jakarta; Pusdiklat Krakatau Steel, Cilegon ; Puslatek United Can, Jakarta; and P2LT, ADR, Jakarta. On the other hand, ATMI also accepts the trust form Pertamina, ASTRA, IPTN and many big companies not only from national but international ones as well.
